Kuriakose Elias College is established and administered by the St. Joseph's Monastery Mannanam, the Mother house of the CMI Congregation. The college has been built on the same beautiful hill where in 1846 Blessed Kuriakose Elias took the first step towards secular education by starting the "Sanskrit School".

Established in 1964 K.E. college has developed as one of the best colleges in Kerala. This institution is a first grade college under CMI management. In the Education and Social Work field K.E College has been doing meritorious service to the community and society ever since its inception. It has been decided to form a Public Charitable Society to focus more on the community and its development so that the social work activities can be done more effectively to the society. Rev. Dr. Joseph Mannooparampil CMI, Rev. Fr. Biju Thekkekuttu C.M.I  and Mr. Tojo Thomas  have coordinated the preliminary works for the formation of the "KEDAS" society.

Aims & Objectives

The aims & objectives of the society are to render charitable services to the poor and the needy without considering cast,creed,community,sex or religion mainly in the following ways:

♦ To Organize prize ,awards,scholarship etc to recognize the brilliant student and to encourage other students develop themeselves through hardwork.

♦ To organize developmental projects in the area of social,education, community health & sanitation and implement rural development programs in various villages,foe the development of the marginalized section of society.

♦ To Conscientize people in the area of gender justice,empowerment of women and strengthen other weaker sections of the society through various awarness generation and action reflection programmes.

♦ To establish and elderly helpline for psychological support in its operational area and independent advise on housing and care option for older people.

♦ To undertake programmes for environmental protection and preservation of bio diversity with special focus on rare medicinal plants and the use of herbal medicine.

♦ To Organize training programs for entrepreneurship development for poverty alleviation and employment generation and development of personality and leadership abilities for self propelled action.

♦ To establish family counselling centers for family and individual counseling and conduct counselling courses.

♦ To work for the welfare of farmers and agricultural workers and to develop model farms and Eco-Friendly practices and promoters organic cultivation.

♦ To takecare of terminally ill patients by establishing pain and palliative centers of Hospice.

♦ To promote activities solely for the benefit of the poor people like Vocational and Technical Training and make them capable of earning livelihood.

♦ To collaboratc with wclfarc agencies in India and abroad to serve as their representatives to undertake in investigation on project appeal received by them and help them to implement the project effectively.

Social work has already been recognized as a professional service which is on the path of growth. Consequent to the industrialization and globalization, social workers' service is on high demand. Departments of health, social welfare and education in government as well as non-government sector, which are gearing up to meet this demand, are on the lookout for qualified social workers and management professionals. To cope with this need, K.E. College Mannanam started the Department of Social Work on 18th August 2004. Now the department has completed six academic years successfully with two specialization courses via Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Community Development. The department of Social Work has been following a systematic training system giving equal importance to theory and practice. It has made a collaborative networking with more than 40 human service organizations within and outside Kerala. The department has been organizing a series of skill training programmes with the wholehearted support of the well known professionals working in a variety of settings.
